Welcome to The Huntingdon Teenage Carers Website
What is a teenage carer?

A teenage carer is a young person ( up to the age of 18 ),
whose life is affected by caring, where the person being cared for has a
disability or a long term illness.
Within this definition the person being cared for may be a
parent, sibling, other family member or friend but this is not necessarily
in the same house as the carer.
Disability and long term illnesses is not restricted to a
physical disability or illness, but includes mental ill health, learning
disability, substance misuse, HIV and AIDS etc.
The Young Carers Project is based at the
Primrose Centre in Huntingdon. It started in March 2001 with funding from
the Sylvia Adams Trust, Social Services and three years funding from the
National Lottery Community Fund.
The Huntingdon Teenage Carers Project is part of Crossroads Caring for
Carers. It employs a Young Carer Project worker, Project assistant and
sessional staff work with the groups. All the staff employed by the project
are police checked and are qualified to work with children and young people.
